Let’s just blame mom!

She always made the extra effort to cozy up our home at Christmas. She would add a festive touch to most rooms in the house. This year, her 74th Christmas, she has three trees in her home.

One of her favorite places on earth is in Gatlinburg, Tennessee (or Pigeon Forge which many consider an extension of Gatlinburg)! There is an extra special establishment in Pigeon Forge that makes her heart sing, Christmas Village.

What a perfect name for the enchanting experience that awaits the season’s adherent. I purchased my first ornaments from said store on one of our girl’s trips over 25 years ago! You will see those in an upcoming post hanging from the dining room chandelier.

Now you know the back story! It’s all mom’s fault, and I’m learning it will forever be “mom’s fault”, regardless of the subject matter!  I give you 2016 Christmas on King Lane, part one!

You’ll find the Southern Nell’s approach to dressing your home, some vintage combined with new and heirlooms cozied up to thrift finds, holds true at Christmas,  and it  begins just inside the front door.

Santa and “Little Nell” tucked in to a wicker sleigh, greet at your first step. I can’t look at this vintage doll without hearing my dad’s heart-warming version of “Up on the Housetop” echoing in my ears! Imagine the glee of a delicate, innocent young one when she discovers HER name in a Christmas song! 🎶”First come’s a stocking for Little Nell”! When I found the doll clothed in my favorite color of all time, peach, I knew she belonged in my home.

The large sleigh, which has been refreshed with greens numerous times the past decade, resides under the main tree in the living room. This year I mixed in some snow frosted greenery and blush colored ornaments! I used the same color scheme on the Christmas Tree.

For, when blush/peach are genuinely in vogue for home decor, not just the perfect house jacket for great-grandmother, you can bet I’m ALL IN! Along with the blush ornaments and peach mercury glass, you’ll discover ice and snow-covered branches, blush/peach twigs, and sparkly blush ribbon infused throughout.

There are ornaments from my mom, and my bonus mom, my sisters and my bonus sisters, pictures of my babies from their first Christmas and the obligatory (guaranteed to produce laughter ), hand-made at school beauties! Sibling rivalry is alive and well as T.J. and Annalisa claim that there gingerbread bakes are the best!

As we continue the tour, you’ll find no less than three depictions of The Nativity! They are all simple and inspiring. The entry table displays my vintage nativity. 

These are all pieces I’ve collected years apart and display together. The brass, mirrored and glass manger is from the 60s, and the tall iron angel spoke to me at Pier One just a few years back! Isn’t she grand and beautiful!

For the last couple of years, I’ve chosen to build my garland for the stairway at the bottom of the stairs, and free up the railing for safe travel.

The icy twigs attached to the railings are tied on with the same sparkly blush ribbon you can find on the tree.
