Vintage Inspired DIY Fall Centerpiece
What You Need:
- vintage pottery – or container of choice
- floral foam
- glue gun
- 3 focal flowers – hydrangea and 3 fall colored peonies
- faux fall colored leaves
- curly willow stems – or any small branches
- fall filler – 1 stem with several branches
- small velvet pumpkins (stem to take apart)

The soft pastel shades of vintage pottery are really catching my eye lately. I’ve always had a small collection of the planters in the aqua and green shades. But, with recently bringing out all my pastel crystal the various pieces of vintage pastel pink, blue, and even yellow dishes, have jumped out at me in the antique malls.
For this simple fall centerpiece, I chose a vintage container that may have contained a flower arrangement several decades ago. It is the softest shade of aqua.
Hot Glue and Floral Foam to Secure the Flowers
I used only a very small amount of hot glue to hold the floral foam in place. The floral arrangement will not be very tall, so a little glue is all that’s needed to secure the flowers.

Vintage Inspired DIY Fall Flower Arrangement – Thriller Flower
Hydrangeas are to fall as Peonies are to Spring, or at least that’s how I see it. There are gorgeous faux hydrangeas out there to purchase. I’ve taught you to purchase the bushes of flowers when it’s possible, and cut them apart. It’s typically cheaper than buying individual stems. But, I understand that sometimes the individual stem is so spectacular that you just go for it. That’s your business.
Place them in the arrangement first, creating the frame work, or outline. I then added the fall colored peonies.
Vintage Inspired DIY Fall Centerpiece – Filler
Faux maple leaves, curly willow branches, and dried statice picks were all placed in the arrangement in this phase. I just packed them all in and around the three focal hydrangeas as you can see here. I used 3 large maple leaves, 3 statice picks, and 3 curly willow sticks.
Vintage Inspired DIY Fall Centerpiece – Spiller
About the spiller…. you can see in the supplies photo that I intended to use some soft golden colored silver dollar branches as filler. Now you see it.
And, now you don’t. They were removed before the photo shoot, as I didn’t think the arrangement needed them. I pulled some of the hydrangea over the edge to create a similar look, and thought that looked great.
I had all of these items on hand. As you’ve noticed through the years, I re-use a lot of my stems from year to year. I rarely make any permanent arrangements. Change is my middle name, right next to Nell! I hope you give it a try.
