This post will explore ways to Decorate a Small Front Porch with a Basket of Fall Mums.
Do we absolutely love super simple fall DIYs?
I thought so!
I have one of those for you, today. No kidding!
This fall DIY will take you about 10 minutes, and if you have an old basket lying around, and a couple of plastic grocery bags you’re 3/4s of the way there.

You might purchase fall mums from the neighborhood high school athlete for your porch, circa 2017.

You might purchase them at your local nursery. Wherever you get them, beautifying your small front porch with fall’s darling flower, the chrysanthemum, is a winning idea.

If you find your summer plants looking pretty weather worn, it’s likely time to empty the planter, throw the dead or dying plant into a compost, and refill the planter with glorious fall mums.
If you don’t have planters on hand, I’ll show you how to use a basket for the job.

Decorate a Small Front Porch with a Basket of Fall Mums
You should know, if you choose this method for displaying your mums, you will need to allow for a couple of extra minutes when your watering.
Items for Front Porch Basket of Mums
- basket
- plastic liner
- mums
- large rock
Select a Basket for your Mums
Although I have a covered front porch, there is still a good amount of sun, and rain that reaches the plants. Keep that in mind as your choosing a basket, nothing too precious.
There are so many cheap baskets, that look good, to be purchased. Try shopping the dollar stores, or even a thrift store, if you don’t already have one in your garage.

Line the Basket
A plastic liner will slow the weathering process for the basket. I used caramel colored grocery bags because the are almost the color of my basket.

Arrange the Mums in Your Basket
For my basket, I was able to fit four of the smallest mum pots. The basket is laid on it’s side, with the mums arranged to spill out. This creates a casual look, but this is why you need a couple extra minutes when watering. I sit the pots up to water them all.

Secure the Mum Basket with a Large Rock
This step is especially important if your basket isn’t flat, and handle. The rock keeps the arrangement in place.

Now, that was super simple, right? Find you a basket and purchase the 5 for $5. mums and get your fall going.
