This post Time to Refresh – Color of the Year Perfect for Grandmillennials will discuss one of the colors of the year 2022.

OH My!

Okay. So, we don’t buy new wardrobes, paint all the walls in our home, or buy the biggest sofa around because Pantone names a color of the year.

I get it! Really.

HOWEVER, when it is a captivating color that looks beautiful on everyone, and I mean everyone, it’s a great time to play along.

This year the color gods choose (drum roll), Very PERI, the short sassy nickname of Periwinkle.

All the grandmillennials just caught a case of “the vapers” (said with my very best Southern Nell accent), as we all are well known to swoon over a gorgeous blue and white…..anything.

(Be sure to read to the end for another reason this is a MOST Endearing Color to me!)

(At least the one from Pantone, and a little on why they chose it:)

No wonder we all love it! It;s “spritely and joyous”, what’s NOT to love.

Time to Refresh – Color of the Year Perfect for Grandmillennials

Grandmillennial Dining Room Refresh

Just this past week, I refreshed my dining room by creating a tablescape. Although periwinkle per se isn’t the focal color of the tablescape it is included in the array of blues.

As always everything except the fresh flowers is vintage. I pulled the blue and white Chinoiserie happiness jars from storage along with several pieces of England’s Wedgewood. Periwinkle and Wedgewood are almost impossible to tell apart. Perhaps periwinkle has an extra droplet of lavendar added to the mix.

Color of the Year Inspiration from Pinterest

Prepare to be amazed, and I’m not even kidding. These are some spectacular uses of the beautiful blue hue. I provided the sources for these photos in their individual captions, as these are not my photographs.

With a guest room like the one below, I’m pretty sure I’d be moving from the master.

This photo could have been taken in almost any room of the house. I’m not sure if it’s in a family room, living room, dining room, or bedoom. I’m quite sure it is breathtaking!

How I’ve Used the “Grandmillennnial’s Favorite” Color of the Year in the Past

Periwinkle is not a stranger around my home. It was with lightening speed that I grabbed some of my photos from the past two years where shades of the color were featured.

The Color of the Year

The Color of the Year to Refresh Outdoors

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost two years since Tom the Great and I refreshed the outside of our home with a deep dark gray paint. The blue and white planters were perfect to add “spritely joy” to the front porch.

Below are the most amazing periwinkle hydrangea from my mom’s back yard. Read all about how I collected many of the flowers used for this bouquet at my post Simple and Sweet Wildflower Bouquets .

Using Periwinkle Indoors

Surprisingly, I don’t have a single wall in my home painted in this beautiful southern color of the year! I suppose I have just run out of walls. You never know when a spare room will need a refresh though.

Most of the ways that you find Periwinkle in my home is in the decor. Here are just a few examples.

Periwinkle at Christmas

What? You don’t own a periwinkle Christmas tree? I’m in shock.

Last year I featured this beautiful tree. It sold out before any of you got the opportunity to pick it up. I just checked and they have them in stock. I know we’re just putting Christmas decor away, I’m just putting the opportunity out there to beat the influencers. Here is my source for: Award Winning Flocked Christmas Trees

How Do I use The Color of the Year to Refresh My Home?

Now we get down to brass tacks. The examples I pulled from Pinterest are exquisite, but you may not be ready to go quite that far with Periwinkle. So, I’ve sourced lots of ways you can add a touch of the captivating color to your home. Remember, blues get along so well with all the other colors. Just look at what the Master Artist placed in the largest expanses–sky and water.

  • Throw pillows
  • Blankets and Throws
  • Happiness Jars and Ginger jars

Use The Color of the Year with Throw Pillows

There is nothing quite as simple as adding throw pillows to help refresh a room. Here are some of my favorites in Periwinkle.

Periwinkle Blanket Throws

Second to the simplicity of adding a refreshing throw pillow is adding a throw blanket. Again, I’ve sourced some of my favorites.

Periwinkle Home Decor Items

Finally, for the home, you can refresh a space with a large array of home decor pieces. My favorite are ginger jars, pagodas, throw rugs, and need I go on?

Using the Color of the Year to Refresh Your Wardrobe

Now that we’ve taken care of the great outdoors and indoors, what about our bodies! Let’s take a look at some of my favorite periwinkle picks in jewelry and clothing.

  • jewels
  • blouses and sweaters
  • coats and jackets
  • accessories

Here I’ve sources some beautiful jewelry! Think Valentine’s Day hints, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, or just because days.

Want a refresh for your skin? Wear this color and watch the youthful spark come back to your complection and your eyes.

I’ve found some gorgeous Periwinkle coats and jackets and they are on sale!

Who could resist a periwinkle purse, p.j.s, or a great pair of shoes?

Why I Love Periwinkle Blue

Tom the Great’s Mother, Mary the Great, loved Periwinkle, calling it her favorite color. As I stated in the 2020 The Best Blue Flocked Tree , her eyes often sparkled in that beautiful periwinkle color. If I’m not mistaken, all 9, YES I SAID 9, of her children have a version of those blue “Irish” eyes. I will never pass a wildflower, see a snappy (her word) blouse, or a bright spring sky without fond memories of the Beautiful Irish Eyed Mary the Great, and my favorite offspring of her’s my Handsome Irish-Eyed Tom the Great, and my Beautiful Irish Eyed daugher Annalisa the Beautiful! Those Irish blue eye genes are strong.

Enjoy Today!

Love y’all,

Lori Nell

I had my living room painted about this color, I called it Eggplant about 17 years ago – and LOVED it. Had shades of olive green furniture. And had accents of copper. I guess I was ahead of the times.
